From inspirational runways to can’t-look-away street style and boundary pushing innovation, there’s nothing quite as inspiring to a fashion lover than Fashion Week. That’s exactly what was offered up in the last seven days, as Melbourne Fashion Week provided a host of special and unforgettable moments, set across eight of the city’s most iconic — and extraordinary — locations. From the work of established designers, to emerging, experiential, modest, eco-conscious and First Nations-focused runways and events, there was plenty left to marvel at during the week-long event.
Lucky for us too, some of the collections shown are already available to shop! Here, we share a few of our favourite moments from M/FW ‘22, as well as the pieces that are already on our wishlists.
M/FW ‘22 kicked off with a stunning opening event, The Urban Garden Runway, held at one of the city’s newest and most impressive landmarks, Wesley Place. The event offered up new collections from some of the country’s most locally-loved designers, including Acler, Atoir, Torannce, and Ngali. Gorman also shared a sneak preview of their latest collaboration with artist Agathe Singer, with the brand’s signature colourful, fun and unique prints on display.
For those that were looking to be truly transported into the world of art and fashion, you couldn’t miss the exceptional fashion showcase at the State Library of Victoria. Playing host to a multi-sensory, immersive experience, performers and models in statement pieces from local designers, like Harrolds, Alix Higgins and Mariam Seddiq, took over the incredible space, from the La Trobe Reading Room (famed for its magnificent dome) to the Ian Potter Queen’s Hall.

What do you get when you cross over some of Australia’s most loved designers with the bustling and iconic Queen Victoria Market Diary Hall? An unmissable fashion experience. The space was transformed into a unique runway and dining experience, as guests enjoyed delicious pieces from market vendors while bold, spring-ready designs took centre stage, including from iconic designers like Ginger & Smart and Veronika Maine.
Where better to host a fashion event than at one of Melbourne’s most-loved centres, Emporium Melbourne. The Hidden Runway event, which coincided with Vogue American Express Fashion’s Night Out shopping festival, saw standout designs from Bec + Bridge, Manning Cartell, Aje and Oroton, which naturally featured vibrant colours and bold silhouettes.
Set under the grand dome at 333 Collins, M/FW ‘22 closed out in spectacular style, with a runway event that was surrounded by the space’s granite columns and decorative arches. It was the perfect setting to feature looks from high-end Australian designers, such as Alice McCALL, Bianca Spender, LEO LIN and more, with a special performance from ARIA Award-winning artist and M/FW Ambassador, Thelma Plum.
